Rana Bagheri, DO - First Hill
University New England College of Osteopathic Medicine
Pronouns: (She, Her, Hers)

I’m originally from Tehran, Iran, where I grew up surrounded by a strong sense of family and community and a culture that deeply values resilience, hospitality, and caring for others. In 2019, I immigrated to the United States and settled in Portland, Oregon. Starting over in a new country taught me adaptability and perseverance, while also giving me a firsthand appreciation for the challenges many patients face when navigating an unfamiliar healthcare system.

I attended the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, where I discovered that building meaningful relationships with patients was the most rewarding part of medicine. Throughout medical school, I developed a passion for women's health, preventive care, and caring for patients across all stages of life.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy trying new restaurants, hiking around the Pacific Northwest, playing pickleball, and finding new ways to make my apartment feel like home. I’m excited to be training at the First Hill Family Medicine Clinic as part of the Swedish First Hill Family Medicine Residency Program. I look forward to growing as a full-spectrum family physician with a special interest in women's health, reproductive care, and preventive medicine while serving the diverse communities of Seattle.

Jordy Chavez-Estrada, MD  – First Hill
Georgetown University School of Medicine
Pronouns: (He/Him/His)

I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and attended the University of St. Thomas (Roll Toms!!) in St. Paul, MN for my undergraduate studies. I am proud of my Mexican-American heritage and proud of being a son of Mexican immigrants. Naturally, having a large family and a loving community, I was motivated to pursue Family Medicine as it combined all the great aspects of a career and patient population. There is nothing better than finding your people, and I truly know I have found mine in this specialty. I was very impressed with Swedish First Hill and their full scope FM training in an urban setting. Full scope training allows physicians to be prepared for anything and meet the needs of vulnerable populations who do not have access to immediate specialized care. This is important to me as someone who grew up in a disadvantaged background, as full scope training allows us to build equitable healthcare spaces.

While attending Georgetown University School of Medicine, I was involved in the Primary Care Leadership Track, where I rotated at a predominantly Spanish-speaking FQHC clinic. Forming longitudinal relationships with families and seeing the progress in their health over the four years further solidified my interest in community and urban health care.

Before medical school, I followed my partner to Missoula, Montana, where I worked at a grocery store, serving in the cafe and deli, all the while interviewing for medical school. The time I spent in Montana opened my eyes to the beauty of the mountain range and the broader Pacific Northwest; it also exposed me to new adventures and hobbies I would not have had anywhere else. The affinity to return to the area did not escape me and was a motivating factor in applying for residency.

Seattle is diverse, naturally beautiful, and has so much to offer, so I hope to take advantage of my time here and beyond. I am joined by my wonderful partner and my sweet Golden Retriever named Trilly. We hope to find our favorite coffee shops and dog parks. My hobbies include indoor rock climbing/bouldering, running, yoga, cycling (commute and for fun), foraging, and spending any time outdoors (remember, skin is waterproof).

Carmen Conroy, M.D. - First Hill  University of California Pronouns: (She, Her, Hers)

I grew up in a bilingual, multigenerational home in San Francisco. Being part of the diverse Bay Area community made me want to be the kind of physician who could provide full-spectrum care for people from all walks of life, at all ages. I was further drawn to family medicine because I wanted a career rooted in long-term patient relationships, reproductive justice, and health equity. My clinical interests include family planning, LGBTQ+ health, and adolescent medicine. I am also interested in health insurance reform and the use of different support modalities for patients navigating reproductive healthcare.

Outside of medicine, I love reading Elena Ferrante, sunbathing in my backyard, making jewelry (and crafting of any kind), and browsing estate sales. I’m so excited to train at Swedish First Hill and to continue growing as a family physician in a program deeply committed to community and full-spectrum care.

Cecelia Hembrough MD - First Hill  Virginia Commonwealth University Pronouns: (She, Her, Hers)

I grew up in a small town in Maryland where I spent most of my time outside with my 3 younger brothers, reading books, and playing in the marching band. I studied Biochemistry and Italian at the University of Pittsburgh (and played in the marching band there too!), and started to learn about harm reduction, social justice, and the ways that Family Medicine physicians fight relentlessly for their patients. After graduating I worked as a park ranger for 6 months in southwestern Pennsylvania and absolutely loved getting to connect with people and help them discover how diverse and complex the world around us is. Hiking every day was a definite bonus!

I then headed south to Richmond, VA for medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University where I was a member of the underserved community track. I spent 2 years as the VCU chapter leader of the Period Education Project (PEP), bringing menstrual and puberty education to adolescents. I also volunteered at the comprehensive harm reduction center in Richmond and loved getting to learn more about how broad harm reduction truly is. I was able to see firsthand how important it is to be embedded in the community you’re serving and loved getting to talk about patient autonomy and bringing dignity to healthcare.

My clinical interests include LGBTQ+ care, gender affirming care, reproductive justice and family planning, obstetrics, and harm reduction. I am so excited to be at Swedish First Hill where I can truly put my values of patient autonomy and dignity into practice and care for my community.

Outside of medicine, I can usually be found knitting with my cats, reading, watching women’s hockey, and spending as much time outside as possible.

Jack Hurley, MD - First Hill McGovern Medical School Pronouns: (He, Him, His)

I was born in Exeter, England and my family moved to Houston, Texas when I was a baby. Houston is where I've spent the majority of my life. I attended the University of Texas at Austin, where I studied biochemistry and minored in kinesiology. I also played rugby throughout undergrad and have enjoyed sports my entire life.

Throughout undergrad and medical school, I volunteered at free clinics serving underserved communities, and I traveled to Panama for pop-up clinics as well. Those experiences shaped how I think about access to care and stuck with me as I made my way through medical school at UTHealth Houston, where I stayed close to home. Family medicine appealed to me for its breadth, the chance to treat patients across every stage of life and provide full-spectrum care. My clinical interests include lifestyle medicine, addiction medicine, LGBTQIA+ health, and sports medicine, and I'm looking forward to building skills across all of these areas during residency.

Outside of medicine, I'm usually doing one of the following: drinking coffee, going for a run, hiking somewhere new, digging through thrift stores, gaming, watching TV, comedy shows or Formula One, or eating more chocolate than I probably should.

Star Kieu My Huynh, MD, MPH  - DFM
University of California, San Diego                                                                Pronouns:                                                                                                                                                     (She, Her, Hers)

I am a California native who grew up in the Bay Area before moving to San Diego to attend the University of California San Diego School of Medicine as part of the PRIME-HEq program. Prior to medical school, I studied Biology and Humanities, which fostered my interests in both science and the human stories that shape health.

I was drawn to Family Medicine because I enjoyed the breadth of caring for patients across all stages of life and the opportunity to build meaningful, long-term relationships. Becoming a mother during medical school further deepened my appreciation for preventive care, nutrition, and meeting patients where they are. My professional interests include lifestyle medicine, obesity medicine, preventive care, community health, and office-based procedures, though I am excited to continue exploring the many opportunities within Family Medicine.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy cooking, trying new restaurants, watching Korean dramas, embroidering, playing Catan and The Sims, walking my dogs, and spending time with my daughter, family, and friends. I am always happy to accept recommendations for good food and good company.

Katharine Jones, MD  - DFM
University of Colorado School of Medicine
                                                                                            Pronouns:                                                                                                                                                                             (She/Her/Hers)

I was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado where I developed a love for both working with people and the natural world. I studied Biology and International Studies at Gonzaga University, completing a semester abroad in Gaborone, Botswana in community public health. A course on Palestine/Israel inspired me to move there after college to volunteer as a Model UN and English teacher.

After returning to the U.S., I realized I wanted to approach advocacy through a health lens. I began working as a nurse aide at a community hospital shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic, which propelled me to apply to medical school.

In medical school, I founded a group organizing interdisciplinary events related to infectious diseases and I led a collaboration of students and community members working to ensure my school’s free clinic was community informed. I also completed a longitudinal adolescent health project in rural Guatemala through the Global Health track. My joy in caring for folks of all ages and interests in global health and advocacy led me to Family Medicine.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy hiking, trying new restaurants with my partner, petting other people’s dogs, caring for my plant collection, and traveling when time allows. I am thrilled to be joining Swedish First Hill Family Medicine and I’m excited to explore all that Seattle has to offer!

Rachel ‘Rae’ Monane, MD - DFM
Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University
                                                                       Pronouns: (She/Her/Hers)

After growing up mainly in the Greater New York Area, I earned an undergraduate degree in business (Marketing major with minors in English and Psychology) from the University of Miami. I had joined Unilever's rotational program in brand development for several years after graduation, with my last role overseeing a product line launch, e-commerce, and brand partnership efforts for the Hellmann’s/Best Foods brand.

In making my jump from mayonnaise to medicine, I worked full-time in clinical research at the interdisciplinary Center for Behavioral Cardiovascular Health, while completing Columbia’s premed postbac program. I managed a suite of Implementation Science programs, including the development of iteratively built, iPad-based, bilingual screening tools for depression in underserved primary care (Transform DepCare) and post-ACS (iHeart DepCare) populations, ensuring that the finished shared-decision making tool educated, activated, and spoke to the needs of patients. I next joined the leadership team at the Center for Personalized Health at Northwell Health and led efforts for the Women Leaders’ Wellness Program (a preventative wellness initiative to provide evidence-based, health-optimizing recommendations), Maven (a program designed to provide underrepresented scientists with tools to address barriers to leadership advancement), and served as a project manager for the Northwell Health COVID-19 Research Consortium.

I made my way to Philly for medical school, where I completed a research fellowship in the Health Design Lab and patented Motivity, an IV system designed for patient ambulation. Now in the PNW, I am thrilled to join the Swedish First Hill Family Medicine program and Downtown Family Medicine clinic. I am passionate about advocating for my patients, delivering inclusive care that meets people where they are, and finding practical, human-centered ways to improve the experiences of patients and providers in healthcare.

My hobbies include inhaling documentaries, tending to my growing houseplant jungle, painting while listening to audiobooks, 3D printing, watching live stand-up comedy, and intermittently performing improv.

Riley Okeson, MD – First Hill
University of Rochester Pronouns: (She, Her, Hers)

I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, but have found homes in many beautiful places and communities. I attended the University of Virginia, where I majored in English and Biochemistry. I fell in love with rugged coastlines, waterfowl, and cold winters as a Park Ranger at Acadia National Park in Maine. Continuing work with the National Park Service at Mount Rainier, I discovered the beauty in the marmots, mountains, and wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest.

Before making my way back here, I ventured to Rochester, NY for medical school. During this time, I was drawn to family medicine because of its breadth, continuity, and commitment to caring for individuals, families, and communities across a lifetime. I am especially inspired by the commitment to advocacy and community engagement within family medicine.

Some of my interests include reproductive healthcare and justice, addiction medicine, and LGBTQIA+ health. I hope to one day practice full-spectrum family medicine.

My hobbies include spending time in the outdoors, playing board games with my husband, and reading a good book with my two cats, Worm & Squid. I am ecstatic to be back in Seattle with the vibrancy, diversity, and opportunities of a major city alongside unparalleled access to mountains, forests, coastlines, and marmots.

Kyla Smart, MD - Ballard
Oregon Health and Science University                                                                                                       Pronouns:                                                                                                                         (She/Her/Hers)

As a family medicine doctor, I love creating clinical spaces where patients feel heard, informed and empowered to make decisions that align with their values and goals. I’m passionate about working at the intersection of health, education and advocacy, with particular interests in comprehensive reproductive health, gender-affirming care and adolescent medicine.

As a lifelong Oregonian, I’m thrilled to remain in the Pacific Northwest to complete my residency with Swedish First Hill. I look forward to working with and learning from the patients, colleagues and communities who make Seattle unique.

Outside of medicine, you can find me hiking, knitting, working on my car or spending as much time as possible with my three dogs.

Jesse Wu, M.D. - First Hill                                                                                                                                 Case Western Reserve University                      Pronouns:                                                                                                                                 (He/Him/His)

I grew up in central Massachusetts and Washington state, and I am glad to be back in the PNW for residency! I attended Johns Hopkins University for undergraduate education, studying biomedical engineering. While I was there, I developed an interest in food and its relation to business, culture, and health. I explored the restaurant industry through writing articles for The Johns Hopkins News-Letter, and I eventually participated in it by interning at local restaurants and eventually starting my own pop-up restaurant in Baltimore. I realized that despite my science and engineering background, I loved to learn about people and understand new stories.

Before medical school, I also worked as a high school teacher in Montgomery County, MD. I learned about the different challenges that different kids face in their education, and how the system doesn't always work for everyone.

While in medical school, I realized that I liked everything about medicine. I enjoyed thinking about every kind of health problem that a person can face. I came upon family medicine as a way of becoming someone you can ask about anything, and if I don't know then I can get you to the answer. My professional interests include: preventive medicine, public health, addiction medicine, and community engagement.
